Licensing Associate Job Duties
The Licensing Associate is responsible for assisting Georgia Tech researchers to ensure appropriate protection of intellectual property, innovations, and discoveries, while striving for commercialization of innovations. This position will interact on a regular basis with: Faculty and staff. This position typically will advise and counsel: Faculty and staff. This position will supervise: N/A.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Job Duty 1
- Review, research, and assess new discoveries and innovations for commercial value, patentability, marketability, and technical understanding.
Job Duty 2
- Identify, investigate, and analyze potential licensing opportunities to achieve growth and financial profitability, in accordance with university objectives and strategic plans.
Job Duty 3
- Assist in negotiating and drafting NDA¿s, MTAs, and non-exclusive contracts.
- Responsibilities typically include managing simple projects working under supervision.
- Projects faced are basic and don’t require extensive experience.
Job Duty 4
- Assist legal counsel in seeking patent protection for Georgia Tech inventions and managing patent prosecution activities.
Job Duty 5
- Under supervision, manage relationships with faculty, provide feedback and guidance to faculty regarding inventions and discoveries, assist faculty in navigating the patent process.
Job Duty 6
- Actively market innovations to potential industry partners and participate in other business development activities.
Job Duty 7
- Participate in professional development and training opportunities.
Job Duty 8
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Licensing Associate Qualifications
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Life or Physical Sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Experience:
- 0-1 year of job related experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Licensing Professional (CLP) or Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP)
- Master’s degree in Life or Physical Sciences
- Two or more years of job-related experience. Internship at technology transfer office
Abilities
- Strong ability to successfully manage a moderate sized portfolio of less complex but diverse technologies and carry simple projects concurrently through to completion.
- Ability to draft and negotiate simple agreements, under supervision, for non-exclusive licenses, transfer materials and non-confidential disclosures; demonstrated ability or ability to efficiently learn how to interact effectively and productively with faculty.
Knowledge
- Knowledge researching technology markets, working with faculty and students in the evaluation of early-stage technologies, and a basic understanding of intellectual property and contract law.
Skills
- Expert in written and verbal communication, analytical thinking, people management, problem solving, customer service, organization, strong attention to detail, interpersonal relationship building, problem-solving, and creativity skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
